Referee's Survival Guide Booksigning
Jeffrey Caminsky, a veteran soccer official, appeared at the Novi soccer referee recertification clinic on Saturday, November 15, 2008, signing copies of The Referee's Survival Guide, his acclaimed book on soccer officiating. Two complimentary copies of the book were awarded to the two youth officials who received the highest score on their recertification test, and other copies were available for referees who wanted to purchase them.
"I always like to help younger officials to rise through the ranks," said Caminsky, a state referee emeritus and former club assignor for the Michigan Wolves and Hawks. "One of my proudest achievements was to see two of my kids acknowledged as the 'Young Referee of the Year,' and part of the reason I wrote my soccer book was to help new officials learn some of the tricks of the trade more quickly than I managed, during my early years as a referee."
The Referee's Survival Guide is available online at Amazon, as well as directly from the publisher. The book will be available soon from Official Sports International, the world's largest referee supply company, which recently completed an agreement with the publisher to stock the book on its website.

New Book on Shakespeare's Sonnets by Michigan Author Jeffrey Caminsky

New Alexandria Press is proud to announce the publication of The Sonnets of William Shakespeare, edited by Michigan author Jeffrey Caminsky. Written largely to help introduce Shakespeare to the beginner, the book also contains background material on Shakespeare’s life and times in Elizabethan England, and the notes and commentary convey the wit and bawdy humor of the greatest writer known to the English Language.
“While everyone acknowledges his greatness,” says Caminsky, a novelist and lawyer from Livonia, Michigan, “he’s a writer that many students try to avoid because of the unfamiliar vocabulary. But he really wrote to a wide range of audiences in his lifetime. What I’ve tried to do is unravel some of the mystery, and let the modern reader discover the artistry that was apparent to the audiences of his day.”
Many modern readers often miss much of the spark that made Shakespeare such an unique and engaging writer. The many changes in our language over the past four hundred years can let much of the richness of his artistry pass unnoticed. And yet Shakespeare wrote not to conceal his meaning under loft-sounding phrases, but to let truth and beauty unfold with gentle grace. And once the reader unravels some of the quaint Elizabethan idioms, the miracle of Shakespeare’s words shine through, fresh and times as the day he wrote them.
The book is Caminsky’s fifth, and the third released this year. He is also the editor of a collection of short stories, and the author of two science-fiction novels and an acclaimed book on soccer officiating. His publishing company, New Alexandria Press was formed in 2006; it is named after the home planet of the hero of his science fiction adventure series. The book is currently available on Amazon. It should be available soon in local bookstores, and is distributed by Baker and Taylor, as well as the Publisher.

Two New Science Fiction Novels by Michigan Author Jeffrey Caminsky

New Alexandria Press is proud to announce the publication of two new books, written by Michigan author Jeffrey Caminsky. These books are part of a series of four science fiction novels set 500 years in the future, called The Guardians of Peace. The two newly released books are entitled The Sirens of Space, and The Star Dancers, and are currently available on Amazon. They should be available soon in the local bookstores, and are distributed by Baker and Taylor, as well as the Publisher, New Alexandria Press.
The entire series follows the adventures of Roscoe Cook and the Cosmic Guard (the Interstellar Navy of the day) shortly after humans encounter alien cultures and civilizations for the first time. Unfortunately, the humans of the 26th Century are little different from those we see around us today: while our technology and culture has made great strides over the years, many of us are as self-centered as ever. And since Outer Space in the year 2550 is not the exclusive province of philosophers and scientists, the best as well as the worst of Terran society has spread throughout the Frontier...and is pressing their government to take a harder line against the aliens.
The first book—The Sirens of Space—lays out the background for the rest of the series. Commander Cook, a gifted young officer, is promoted to captain and given command of his starship. But, military contractors having changed little over the years, his ship causes him nothing but grief-and it's all he can do to keep everyone's mind focused on getting their ship ready to sail. Meanwhile, politicians and commercial interests are scheming to bring about a change in the Terran Government, hoping for one more amenable to exploiting the riches to be found in the star clouds and planets of the Cosmic East, where the aliens are resisting Terran encroachment. As the book ends, the principals are taking to the skies...toward whatever fate awaits them among the stars.
The second book—The Star Dancers—is where the adventure begins. The reader learns about alien culture, which is suffering from internal divisions. We meet Gal’Shenga, an alien leader anxious to achieve his dream of reforming and modernizing his society, and his nephew Ga’Glish, commander of the alien fleet. But the Terra’s Cosmic Guard has problems of its own: pirates and privateers are still infesting their skies, as they have for hundreds of years...a vestige of their history that has led Terra to develop ever-better machines of destruction to protect their lanes of commerce. Meanwhile, a band of ne'er-do-wells, eager to recover riches away deep inside alien skies, confronts an alien scientific outpost just as a peace conference is concluding on an alien world...setting the stage for conflict and tragedy, unless both sides are able to control the hotheads on either side of the border. The book ends with Captain Cook struggling to find his way back to Terra through uncharted skies, as the galaxy is descending into chaos.
The next volume—called Clouds of Darkness—is planned for release in the Fall of 2009. The concluding book in the series—entitled The Guardians of Peace—is scheduled for publication in 2010.
